There is nothing particularly wrong with this book except that the content is quite slight in terms of the raison d'etre of this series; the combat performance of the two aircraft in regards to each other. The author is first to admit that there is a very thin selection of combats to assess, with most of these being the few times Seafire pilots were able to successfully intercept "Special Attack" Zero fighters. The main exception was what was probably the last big dogfight of the war, when land-defense Zeros tangled with Seafires on a combat patrol over Japan. I'm glad that I was able to pick up this number cheap as part of a package deal. ( ) aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Products of vastly different design philosophies, the Seafire F III and the A6M Zero were never intended to meet in combat, and never should have. The Zero, extremely nimble at low speeds was purpose-built as a shipboard fighter. In contrast, the Spitfire was intended to operate from established airfields, and needed to be adapted as a carrier fighter. The book examines these two iconic fighters and their two very different histories, using fantastic artwork and first hand accounts to illustrate the last aerial duel of World War II, as the British Seafire overcame its critics to emerge victorious over the Japanese Zero.
