Inquisitor Ravenor and his followers investigate a daemonic conspiracy that stretches across space and time in three classic novels by Dan Abnett. In the war-torn future of the 41st millennium, the Inquisition fights a secret war against the darkest enemies of mankind - the alien, the heretic and the daemon. The three stories in this omnibus tell the tale of Inquisitor Gideon Ravenor and his lethal band of operatives, whose investigations take them from the heart of the Scarus Sector to the wildest regions of space beyond, and even through time itself. Wherever they go, and whatever dangers they face, they will never give up until their mission succeeds. Contains the novels Ravenor, Ravenor Returned and Ravenor Regue, plus three short stories.… (plus d'informations)

I enjoyed this book a lot. Its well-paced and exciting, the characters are believable and behave in ways that are recognisable and understandable, and the plot is well-developed and full of twists and turns. There may be a spoiler or two coming up, so be warned. Ravenor introduces us to Gideon and his big black box (which he is sealed into following a crippling in an enemy action). Gideon is fortunate (?) enough to be an alpha-grade psyker, so he doesn't really need limbs to do anything. He and his box and his gang of athletes, thugs, and savants are out to save the imperium, one super-villain at a time. Although he's picked a very super super-villain to take on, so that occupies all these books really, even when Ravenor doesn't know it. On the way he collects stray psyker kids and a super-daemon hitches a lift too, which Ravenor also doesnt know about. They bust a drugs ring trading in possessed narcotics, take down a sector-wide naughty words research facility, and finally close the door on that super-daemon we mentioned earlier. All this stuff is done with just the right amount of face-punching and just the right amount of appropriate introspection so that the book continues to be a sci-fi action thriller but is never just a mindless violence spree. My only complaint, and this might be just because its fresh in my mind, is that there are two bits of the ending that made me go eh? Firstly, so the door is the key to getting the daemon gone, but where does it go and where did the door come from before the Wych House, in fact why hadn't the Inquisition already busted the Wych House, what is that all about, who was running it and what was their game? Secondly, Molotch is weak and hurt and tired at the end of the book but he seems to have gone downhill very quickly and it feels a bit like he lies down and dies for Ravenor. It seemed out of character. Those minor issues apart I thoroughly enjoyed Ravenor and it kept me reading way past my sleeping time night after night. Like Eisenhorn before it, i would recommend this to someone who isn't into Warhammer because its good enough to stand alone. ( )

It took me a while to read this omnibus, but that is not unusual for me. With books like this, I may read part of it, put it down, take it back up. I will say that, while I liked it, I did not love it. The first novel in the set seemed a bit slow to be honest. I particularly enjoyed the Patience short story, and the last novel did pick up the pace at the end. This is a book that you should read at once. I mean that the novels are so closely linked that they can be read as a single work. Personally, I enjoyed the Eisenhorn collection better, but the Ravenor set is still a good read, albeit a bit slow at times. ( )

I am surprised there were no members' reviews.
these seriesof books are very good. itis the first time i read or heard of this author and i shall keep an eye out for hisother books.
it is great that this is an omnibus, as the stories link up very nicely and they are so excitingly told and there is so much action that the words just fly by and it is great that i can read them continously rather than wait to get the books one by one. ( )
