After making us suffer through 4 books of agony apparently the love the Hollands sisters hold is fleeting and really not worth of the trouble they caused. ( ) This one like the first in the series feels like a set up to the finale. Granted, this one stands more firmly on its own than the first, but .. well, it's almost like she thought of the storylines prior to starting the first and the publisher said "cut it here and here" so we get 4 books out of it. While that may be great for the publisher and the writer, for the reader, it's somewhat frustrating to be left in limbo for the next "installment" to the series. (What I mean is that one cannot simply pick up a single tome of the series and leave it at that, they are forced to pick up the next [in this case the 4th book] to finish what should have been wrapped up in the 3rd.) And while I do understand the concept of serials, I which Ms. Godbersen had been more faithful to that concept, wrap up the story then leave them with a cliffhanger (or something of the equivalent) to entice the reader to get the next one. As expected in the book, Penelope causes a lot of trouble with this whole "Mrs. Schoonmaker thing". I must say the book took a really long time to resolve all of the problems. At one point I couldn't take all the drama and wanted to throw the book away. Nevertheless I kept reading. The book had some key climaxes like the relationship with Diana and Greyson and Teddy wanting to go to war, which of course, kept me reading. All in all the book held my interest right down to the end, and I enjoyed it too. I am loving the Luxe series so much and I'm so sad to be starting the last book today, I wish this series would go on forever. It's so hard to put these books down, I'm always curious as to what will happen next. Obviously I'm not happy with all the events/characters in the story but in the end they bring the story together, even the bad events make you want to continue to read in hopes that everything will still workout for your favorite characters.
