2006 Scholar's Bookshelf reprint edition of this book first published in 1941, which provides a detailed and critical study of the coordination of the British military effort in WWI, covering specific theaters, their problems, attempts at unity of command, the creation of the Supreme War Council, and lasting problems that were still present as WWII came. The author identified specific difficulties that would have to be overcome, and pointed out that the British, at least in WWI, "were inclined to rely too much on the information supplied by our Allies and did not check it sufficiently with information obtained by ourselves."
