"This edition of Coleridge's classic Romantic poem reprints the 1798 and 1817 texts (on facing pages to encourage comparison) along with critical essays, newly commissioned or revised for students, that examine "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" from five contemporary critical perspectives." "Each critical essay is accompanied by a succinct introduction to the history, principles, and practice of the critical perspective, and by a bibliography that promotes further exploration of that approach."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Of course, these poems are great. I revisited these on a whim and I'm glad I did. I forgot how much of a narrative bias Coleridge had.

This Dover edition is ho hum. Nothing but the bare poems, but hey, my copy cost me $1. ( )

I would give "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" or "Kubla Kahn" five stars easily, but a lot of the poetry in the book beyond that didn't do much for me. Samuel Taylor Coleridge is a brilliant writer of the more supernaturally minded poems, and his verses of love are generally rather good. Personally, I'm a bit uncomfortable reading this, as I really haven't a lot of experience with anything beyond the epic poems. ( )

Taste in poetry is rather individualist, but here are my thoughts on this book.

A delightful and affordable edition of the masterpiece: This 75 page edition is an efficient and likeable publication.
The book includes the famous Rime of the Ancient Mariner (with side notes) and Kubla Khan as well as 20 or so others.
The layout and print font are easy to read and the absence of an introduction spares the reader from facing mumbled opinions of the elite university members who usually appear in these books.
Affordable reading from Dover. Thoroughly recommended, especially for those who have never read Coleridge and don't want to spend large amounts of money on something they may not like.
Once again, well done Dover Publications.

This poetry collection contains only 23 of Coleridge's poems (see Description). It should not be combined with editions containing additional poems, fewer poems, or different poems. (In particular, please do not combine it with works that contain THE RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER alone.) Thank you.
