Biscuit takes a walk is a simple book and the big message is just that the simple things in life can turn out to be an adventure- such as taking a walk. I liked Biscuit takes a walk for a few reasons. The first reason I liked the book is the characters are believable. The story is about a girl and her dog taking a walk. The dog acts like a dog that you would see in real life. For example, the author says "Biscuit wants to see the squirrels", and the picture shows him chasing a squirrel. A second reason I liked the book is the plot is organized. On every page of the book it's says "Tim for a walk Biscuit...". On every page Biscuit is doing something he's not supposed to like chasing birds, or digging holes. Since the plot is so repetitive its good for beginning readers who need the structure of repetition. Finally, the illustrations enhance the story. The illustrations are very realistic which fit how realistic the story is. The pictures can help readers get through the story even if they don't know every single word. ( ) Age Appropriateness: Primary Genre: Realistic Fiction Review: This is a good example of realistic fiction, because many people walk their dogs and a dog running away can happen in real life too. Comments: - Talk about your favorite pets, such as dogs. - Stop students and ask why they think the dog is running into the grocery store? -Have students create their dream dog Plot: The plot of this book is dramatic or progressive plot, because there is a climax in the story when the dog runs away and the reader is not sure what will happen to the dog.
