More of a military history of all the squabbles between Rome and Mithridates than a biography, but good enough. ( ) The life of Mithridates VI Eupator of Pontus was full of colourful and bloody incident, but Matyszak's biography contrives to be mildly boring. I have no other complaints, though: near as I can tell, Matyszak is even-handed and thorough, striking a balance between academic impenetrability and popular oversimplification.
