Hit the highlights if you only have one day in Chicago: Morning - Get your bearings from the observatories atop the John Hancock Center*** or the Sears Tower***. Spend the rest of the morning shopping on North Michigan Avenue, justly known as the Magnificent Mile***. Afternoon - Visit the Art Institute of Chicago*** to see their excellent collection of Impressionist art-and much, much more; then stop for tea nearby at Russian Tea Time (see p 106). Evening - Treat yourself to a meal by a star chef (see p 113) or enjoy dinner in one of Chicago's other great restaurants (see Must Eat). ... and if you have a second day: Morning - Take the kids to the John G. Shedd Aquarium***, where the whole family will be wowed by the new Wild Reef** exhibit. Next up is the Field Museum of Natural History***, right next door. Afternoon - Take the water taxi (weather permitting) to Navy Pier** for lunch and a spin on the Ferris wheel, and other rides. Then check out Chicago's new Millennium Park***; the kids will love the jelly-bean-shaped Cloud Gate*** and the Crown Fountain**, where huge projected faces spit water from their mouths. Evening - See a show in Chicago's Theater District in the Loop***. If time permits, try these quintessentially Chicago things to do: * Catch a Cubs game at Wrigley Field*. * Spend a day shopping on Mag Mile***. * Take an architectural tour on the Chicago River. * Make an excursion to Oak Park*** to see the work of architect Frank Lloyd Wright. * Catch a performance of The Second City, Chicago's famous improv comedy troupe. * Stop for afternoon tea at the elegant Palm Court at The Drake Hotel*.… (plus d'informations)
