Bob Schieffer started his reporting career in Texas when he was barely old enough to buy a beer, joined CBS News in 1969, and became one of the few correspondents ever to have covered all four major Washington beats: the White House, the Pentagon, the State Department, and Capitol Hill. Over the past four decades, he's seen it all-and now he's sharing the after-hours tales only his colleagues know.… (plus d'informations)

5--- This Just In: What I Couldn't Tell You On TV, by Bob Schieffer (read 30 Jul 2023) This was published in 2003, which is when I should have read it. It s a fascinating account of the author's account of his reporting career and is full of judgments of the people making news in those days. I wonder what he says or would say about today's weird political scene when it appears as if the Republicans might nominate the only candidate who can lose and suggests I maybe should favor that so Biden wins.

gOP doing that. ( )

If you're a Network TV news junkie, or a member of the Bob Schieffer fan club, you'll thoroughly enjoy this book. If you stayed high during the 60's, and don't remember the Cuba Missle Crisis, the '68 Democratic convention in Chicago, or subsequent events like Watergate, Spiro Agnew, or Whitewater, you'll enjoy the nostalgia of the review of those events. Schieffer is a good writer and story teller, but the book is pretty much a walk-through of events from his broadcast life, without much or any unknown behind the scenes details of the news as it was broadcast. Mr. Schieffer sheds some light on the events he covered as a newsman and anchor during his years with CBS. There are some pretty good stories about the famous and infamous. He reads his own book and does a nice job of it. It's a look back at an era of news coverage now almost gone. ( )

In This Just In, Schieffer relates details about some of the most interesting, important, famous, and infamous news stories he has covered during his long career. He also covers his personal life and the network news business. It was a very interesting and enjoyable book. Schieffer, although a very distinguished news reporter comes across as a very down-to-earth and likable guy. He has had, and continues to have, a remarkable career with CBS news. ( )
