Desolated to think the mighty looked upon his works without despair -- a sore point -- he motioned for the bearers to set down his lapis-lazuli encrusted palanquin. Shielding his eyes against the westering sun, a swollen, yellow-orange blaze near the horizon, Pharoah Khufu gazed steadfastly at an oceanlike mirage shimmering above the Great Sand Sea.
