The characters were engaging and their stories generally convincing. The student-recovering-from-an-affair-with-a-college-professor trope is perhaps a little over-used these days and the resolution of that particular story wasn't all that convincing, but I genuinely wasn't sure where the main story was going to end up and I enjoyed the journey. ( ) This book was billed as an 'edge of your seat' thriller, and one that is 'impossible to put down.' Unfortunately, I found the book up until the last 70 to 80 pages rather dull. The characters were poorly drawn and the dialogue was often awkward and somewhat stilted. I admit I did find that last 70 to 80 pages interesting, but since I had the end figured out by then the book's conclusion wasn't in anyway surprising. Mimi Shappiro has had anything but a good year. An affair with an older professor (now turned stalker) in her freshman year has her wanting time to herself to “re-evaluate” (and hide). Her long estranged father offers her the use of his cabin in a remote part of the Canadian wilderness. Mimi jumps at the chance to get away only to discover, upon her arrival, that the cabin is already occupied. Not only that but also she and the occupant have a “familial connection”. Strange circumstances are complicated by strange goings-on. What is it about the cabin that is causing all the turmoil? This book drew me in quite quickly as I am a sucker for strange happenings in remote locations. Then it became a little disjointed for my taste, but did come together again in a satisfactory ending. It was an okay read. "The Uninvited" by Tim Wynne-Jones was a fast paced mystery/thriller that begged you to keep reading on. The unique circumstances of the main characters helped build some interesting and exciting drama to the plot as the story unfolded. Realistic characters and modern setting in the book serve as an excellent hook for those middle years and high school readers who like a fast paced, edge of your seat book that keeps your attention from cover to cover. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
