One of the all time great bedtime books. ( )

Sweet enough. My main criticism is that the pictures are so dark, it's really hard to read in a dim room, but dim rooms are my preference for bedtime stories. Also, I don't like the line "the very last kiss is almost here," I always read it as "the last kiss of the night is almost here." ( )

This lovely nighttime book uses repetition paired with beautiful animals and illustrations to help children settle into sleep. In each spread, the parent is saying goodnight to the young animal in a gentle, loving, and often easily replicable way. For example, when she says "snuggle in tight, that's right, like that", parents can snuggle in their children for the duration of the book. It's very sweet, lovely, and beautiful. ( )

Within this book, the author talks about how different animals say goodnight to their child. In the end of the book, the author depicts a person, who is a mother, say goodnight to her child. After a brief overview of the content, I have decided that I enjoyed reading this book. The first reason that I enjoyed reading this book is because of the illustrations. One illustration that really caught my attention was when the mother cow was saying goodnight to her calf. The illustrator put a lot of detail into each depiction of every animal to really help the reader understand who the mother is and who the child is. Along with this, I enjoyed reading the book because of the language that the author used. On each page, the author decided that each sentence would have a rhyming word at the end. For example on the page with the bees, the author wrote, "It's time to sleep, little bee, little bee. Yes, I love you and you love me". Having rhyming words within the sentences makes it easier for young readers to read. Last, I enjoyed reading this book because of the point-of-view. Within the story, the author decided to use second person point-of-view (the mothers of each animal). It helps the young reader connect to the story because they know that their mother usually is the one to put them into bed and say that they love them. In the end, the big message of this story was to show young readers that their mother loves them and will always be there when it is time for bed. ( )
