For David Ransom, it begins as an open-and-shut case. Malpractice. As attorney for a grieving family, he's determined to hang a negligent doctor. Then Dr. Kate Chesne storms into his office, dating him to seek out the truth - that she's being framed. First, it was Kate's career that was in jeopardy. Then, when another body is discovered, David begins to believe her. Suddenly, it's much more. Somewhere in the Honolulu hospital, a killer walks freely among patients and staff. And now David finds himself asking the same questions Kate is desperate to have answered. Who is next? And why?… (plus d'informations)

When a patient dies, attorney David Ransom sues the surgeon for malpractice, until Dr. Kate Chesne, challenges him to help her uncover the truth--that she has been framed and a killer is stalking the halls of the hospital.

Easy to read and fast-paced story with several doctors and nurses being killed or dying under suspicious circumstances. The romance that develops between David and Kate wasn’t as interesting as the rest of the story. However, it eventually became too far-fetched. This was an ok read but I enjoyed a story from her Rizzoli & Isles series much more. ( )

A gripping read but somehow far fetched in my opinion. ( )

An entertaining romantic suspense story involving the murders of medical personnel who work at a Honolulu hospital. While the romance between doctor Kate and lawyer David was just okay for me, I thought the suspense aspect of the story was very well done and kept me guessing. There was a great cast of characters (especially the secondary characters) who really brought the story to life. I enjoyed the hospital/medical setting, which was a change of pace from my usual suspense reads. An enjoyable earlier book from Tess Gerritsen. ( )

This is an early Gerritsen book and a short one, but still a good story even if it is improbable. Dr. Kate Chesne, an anesthesiologist, loses a patient during a routine surgery and does not know what happened. it appears that she made a careless mistake and is being sued by David Ransom, a well known attorney who things this is an open and shut case. An upset and indignant Kate (the hospital administrator has threatened to fire her and has suspended her privileges) storms into his office to inform him she did nothing wrong and is being framed. Kate resists pressure to quit her job and finds the body of another colleague after receiving a mysterious message. Then someone tries to kill her. As she and David begin to work together, they begin to have feeling toward one another. This smart protagonist leads the fight for justice amid lots of action. I was able to figure out most of the story about 2/3 of the way in, but it was still a couldn't put down story until the end. ( )
