There is an enduring interest in railway atlases, both contemporary and historical, evinced by the success of Ian Allan Publishing's extensive list of atlas titles. Only one publication, however, puts the railway network of today into its historical perspective - Sectional Maps of Britain's Railways. In 45 highly detailed full colour maps, the book shows the contemporary network - with freight, national network passenger lines, preserved lines and other passenger lines - alongside the lines that have closed, allowing the reader to grasp graphically the extent of the losses to the nation's railway network over the past century. Also shown are all passenger stations as well as major freight termini and large settlements no longer served by rail. This new title in Ian Allan Publishing's extensive atlas list shows the dramatic changes wrought on the national network over the past 15 years. Alongside a small number of additional line closures, the many preservation schemes to have emerged as well as many of the second generation tramway operations are also illustrated. Also shown are the many new stations that have been opened and the development of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link.
