I would ask the students if anyone of them had everbeen involved with a rescue truck.
Ask them to draw a picture of the favorite type of vehicles. ( )

Summary:
This is a picture book all about rescue vehicles. It tells all about what each vehicle does, and how they help people. It has actual pictures of the rescue vehicles instead of drawn ones.
Personal Reaction:
This is a fun book, and not just for boys. Students love seeing real pictures of things. My kids love these types of books where they get to learn about something a little more in depth than what they might already know.
Classroom Extensions:
1. This would be a great opportunity to go over fire safety, and what to do in a fire, and other emergency situations.
2. Try to schedule to have the fire and police department to come by and talk to the students, and allow them to look at their rescue vehicles. ( )

This book is about all of the different vehicles that are used to save people's lives. There are firetrucks, police cars, harbor fire boat, ambulances, motorcycle patrol, helicoptors, airport fire truck, and ocean rescue. All of these special vehicles have a specific purpose. They are all specially built for these purposes. All of these vehicles are very important to help save a person's life.

Growing up I always remember being interested in all of the different vehicles like the fire truck and the police cars. There were always very fascinating to me with all of the different gadgets that are on them.

In my classroom we could learn all of the different vehicles and what they are used for. Another thing is a field trip to a fire station to look at and possibly even ride the fire truck.

This book talks about different emergency vehicles and their functions. Some of the vehicles they discuss are firetrucks, ambulances, polices, motorcycle patrol and harbor firefighters. The book has great pictures to demonstrate their uses to children. The back of the book has a glossary for children to use.

I thought the book was interesting. When I was younger, I used to love when it was fire safety week and we got to get inside a firetruck and explore it. I think this book has a lot of good information on several different emergency/rescue vehicles.

In the classroom, I would have firemen come to the school or we would take a field trip to the fire station and let the students explore the truck and all it's functions. This would be a good time to let the children ask the firemen questions. Also, I would have them draw a picture of their favorite emergency vehicle and then write a story that involve that vehicle going out and rescuing someone. ( )

Fire Trucks and Rescue Vehicles by Jean Coppendale is a book about many different types of rescue vehicles that can save people’s lives. For example fire trucks, helicopters, police cars, airport fire trucks, harbor fire boat, ocean rescue, ambulance, and motorcycle patrols. There are many different ways that rescue teams go out and help people in case of a fire or an emergency. The book shows pictures of helicopters picking up water and delivering it to where the fire is. It also shows the fire engine truck's ladder way up in the air leaned against a building for the fire men to spray their hose and put the fire out. The pictures in these books are very good for kids to understand what is taking place.

I can relate to this book because I have several family members that work for the fire department and wildlife refuge. Both men put out fires but in a completely different way. One puts out forest fires or prescribed burns and the other puts out house or business fires. It is interesting to learn about the different ways that men and women go out every day to help someone in need or to put out a fire.

In the classroom, after reading this book to the children you can ask kids if they have family members that work in any of different fields that were mentioned in the book. A teacher can also get a collection of pictures off the internet and have children talk about the different things they learned about that certain picture from the book. Print out the different types of emergency vehicles and allow the children to pick which one is their favorite and have them color it and write a make believe story of how their favorite rescue person came to rescue them or someone special to them.
