I like a good cozy mystery, I love stories about computers, robots, A.I and science fiction and this second novel in the series continues to disappoint me. The A.I. acts more like a little old lady, then the actual mature woman "Maud" who efficiently runs two offices, is a crack shot and the smartest of all the characters. Tim the dim witted P.I. is ok for laughs but worked better as the smitten copy boy in the first novel. I don't think I'll be reading anymore of this series. I have not read the first book in the series, but it was easy to pick up this book and understand what was going on. I really liked reading the parts about Maude and Tim. Reading the parts about Turing were not quite enjoyable for me. She was constantly thinking about that it meant to be human vs computer, and I got a little tired of that line of thought. The characters are pretty paranoid throughout the book, but since Turing is an artificial computer personality that has achieved sentience, I can see why. She is worried that someone will compromise her security, particularly when one of her trusted employees is murdered. As Turing, Maude and Tim investigate his murder, it looks like everyone they interview is hiding some secret. They have to go into the world of online role playing games in order to solve the murder. The book was enjoyable. All the pieces came together in the end, in a way that seemed plausible, and left a set up for another book in the series. Artificial intelligence personality (AIP) Turing Hopper investigates the murder of a programmer, Ray, who was involved in a computer role-playing game. Ray had been working with her and she worries that their secret that she has almost gained the consciousness of a human will be exposed. The police write off the murder as drug-related so Turing and her human co-workers start their own investigation. This was a light mystery, with a touch of humor, some suspense since every one was suspicious and an interesting idea using the AIP as the main character. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Ray Santiago's friends from work know him as a brilliant-but-easygoing systems engineer who spends a lot of time on his favorite online role-playing game. But the game is over for Ray: his colleagues from work, Maude, Tim, and Turing, have just found out about Ray's murder in a dark alley. He was shot, and his laptop stolen. It could be just another D.C. street crime. But if Turing's password was in that computer-and it's fallen into the wrong hands-she could be in terrible danger. With Turing's Web-searching powers and Maude's and Tim's access to the outdoors, the trio starts looking into Ray's death, tracing their colleague's life from that fatal night, backspace by backspace. But this project leads to more questions than answers-because Ray seems to have fabricated his life story, even his name. And now their quest is growing even more crucial. For as they sort their way through Ray Santiago's various personas, online and off, danger lurks in the lab-perhaps within the very computer in which Turing lives. I really liked this. I think the role playing game upped my interest a bit. I do see I’ve rated it higher than the first in the series (this is the 2nd). Although the game wasn’t everything I was interested in. Finding out who Ray really is, and why he was hiding his identity was also of interest. I just really enjoyed this one, and am glad I continued the series. (I’m sad to see many other ratings are not as high as mine.) ( )
