A sixth grader "detective" sets out to find a thief who stole money from her mom. Stephanie’s Dad is away working on his Masters degree in biology. If this wasn’t bad enough, they just moved into a co-op in Vancouver and her Mom was getting way too chummy with their neighbor Jonathon, who had even joined Garbage Buster’s, Mom’s environmental group. When two thousands dollars disappears from the Diamond home, Stevie starts adding up the late night phone calls, the garbage pushed through their mail slot and decides it’s time to change her name to Stevie (has a more detective like ring to it) and start solving the crime. With help from her partner they may be on the right track. Wider spacing between the text lines could prevent possible frustration for the young reader, but overall, a cute, bouncy, entertaining mystery.
