Grievous Sin is a story that has a lot of coincidences and close calls. It is a disturbing book about the stealing of a newborn who just happened to be in the same viewing room as Peter Decker's newborn. Therefore, Peter had to solve the case himself. It was too close for comfort. Three stars were awarded to this book. ( )

Another in the Peter Decker series by Faye Kellerman. In this installment Peter's wife Rina has just had a baby girl and Peter and his family - including his daughter Cindy - are all camped out at the hospital enjoying the new arrival. Except of course things can't all be going smoothly for our detective. Rina has complications after the birth that result in an emergency hysterectomy. This leads to some soul searching for the couple as Rina does not react well to this news. But there is also some weird stuff going on at the hospital, as Peter's daughter Cindy witnesses while spending a lot of time in the nursery. When a baby goes missing Peter is suddenly not only in new father mode but also in work mode as he wants to know what the ##@$ is going on at the hospital where his baby girl Hannah could have also been a victim. Peter, Cindy and Peter's fellow police officers all get involved in tracking down the kidnapper.
This was a solid entry into the series, I couldn't put it down after I was a few chapters into it. I liked the mix between Peter's family dilemmas, Rina's soul searching conversations with her Rabbi, Cindy's need to get involved in the case and Peter's determination to protect everyone and bring the missing baby home.
