I love Katherine Kellgren and I love Enola Holmes, so how I could not love this? It was pure delight. As a side note, I kind of read this as Enola having a small romantic crush on Cecily. It's certainly not heavily implied, but if I were a young gay girl who liked Victorian literature, I think Enola Holmes would be my favorite. ( )

Enola Holmes series:

When I found out the movie was based on a book series, of course I had to read them as soon as possible!

It’s an absolutely delightful series in which Enola Holmes runs away to London in search of her mother, finds her life’s calling as a Scientific Perditorian (finder of lost things/people), criss-crosses the city in a variety of disguises, and always tries to stay one step ahead of Sherlock and Mycroft — which often involves walking right under their noses!

There were, of course, some significant changes made for the movie adaptation: Enola is only 14 in the books, not 16; and Tewkesbury is 12 and definitely not a love interest; a lot of plot points were added to the Missing Marquess storyline for the movie; Enola’s mother plays a much smaller role in the books; and Sherlock’s acceptance of Enola as a skilled detective in her own right is a much more gradual process that spans the whole series.

But the vibes are the same, and so is Enola’s character. I loved the books just as much as I loved the movie and I do hope they continue adapting the series! ( )

In this mystery, Enola encounters Lady Cecily once again. She senses that Lady Cecily might be in trouble when she motions to Enola with a pink fan. She investigates and discovers that Lady Cecily is set to be married against her will. Coincidentally, Lady Cecily’s mother has gone missing as she was opposed to the wedding.
Enola meets Sherlock along the investigative travels as he has been commissioned to find the mother of Lady Cecily.

When Enola finds Sherlock in a difficult situation with an injured leg. Although she risks her brother returning her home to Mycroft, she decides she needs to help her brother. They decide to work together to stop the disastrous wedding. Sherlock finds Enola to be very capable but is unable to convince Mycroft.

I'm really enjoying this series, the characters are terrific, Sherlock has never seemed more human then in this series and Mycroft so stuffy, but occasionally useful. The star Enola is who powers the series and she'e in great form in this novel. Again my only complaint is that the book is too short, luckily I have a few more to read. ( )
