Following on from the movies "The Dish" and "Apollo 13", this book capitalises on children's interest in space exploration, but with a distinct Australian perspective. It looks at how Australian technicans and scientists were at the forefront of the "space race" helping NASA to put a man on the moon. Told through recollections from scientists with a personal twist as to how they became involved in the events of the 60s, it is a very easy-to-read set of short accounts. Interspersed through the text are pieces of factual information regarding the moon, orbits and space in general. I have no real interest in this subject but was engrossed from start to finish; and I think Kids will be too. ( ) aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Fifty years ago, man first stepped on the moon... and Australians were the first to see it happen! How did that come to be? Who were these Aussies sitting in a computer control room in 1969 at Honeysuckle Creek in the ACT, and how did they get a front-row seat to this ground-breaking moment in space exploration? This is their extraordinary story, told by Bryan Sullivan, one of the technicians in the control room when astronaut Neil Armstrong took that first step on the Moon. Discover how Apollo 11 was almost unable to land - and about the rocky landing site, how there were only seconds of fuel left, and more unforgettable adventures in space that were never told at the time. Bryan and Jackie French answer all your questions about space travel, including: What is the moon made of? Who was the very first person to go into space? How does someone become an astronaut? Have astronauts ever seen any aliens or UFOs? How do you go to the toilet on a spacecraft? Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
