Italy, 1964. Maria Domenica is the eldest daughter of Pepina and Erminio Carrozza, a farming family from the tiny southern village of San Giulio. At sixteen, Maria's life is limited to the confines of her mother's rural kitchen - where she bakes bread every morning, the way the Carrozza women always have - and the Caffe Angeli, a place of friendship, strong espresso and famous ricotta sfolgliatelle. Her parents have high hopes for their beautiful first-born, but she has other plans. Maria runs away to Rome but, one year later, she returns to San Giulio in disgrace - eight months pregnant with the identity of the father a mystery. Hastily, shamefully, she is married off to a neighbour's son. But she soon escapes again, this time to England, where she searches once more for a new life for herself and her daughter, Chiara. Many years later, it is Chiara, not Maria, who finds herself drawn back to San Giulio - to the dusty little piazza, to the enticing aromas of the Caffe Angeli and to her long-lost family. But she soon discovers that the simple Italian life she seeks is not as simple as it seems - particularly where the past is concerned. DELICIOUS is an irresistible saga - written with all the freshness and warmth of a Carrozza family recipe - about the enduring love affair between Italy and England, about three very different generations of Italian women, and an old kitchen in Campania that binds them all together.… (plus d'informations)

Split into three sections (early 1960s, late 60s and 2000), and across Italy and a very dull England, this is about Maria and her daughter Charia, the former running away from her Italian husband and the latter searching for her missing family and her unknown father. In between there is much talk of food, love, cooking, spiteful sisters and conniving cousins, fame and naivety.[return][return]On the whole an enjoyable, easy ( )

I quite enjoyed this one! It wasn't as predictable as I'd expected. It rushed through some parts of the story I would have liked more of and had a lot of detail about some other bits. I wonder how much was edited out? ( )

Delicious is about three generations of women and the old Italian kitchen that binds them together. In the 1960s Maira longs to get away from the small Italian village of San Giulio. In the 2000's her daughter, Chiara, who has a passion for food, is drawn back to the kitchen of her grandmother during her search for family and an unknown father. A good story - although a bit creepy when Chiara falls for a man who may be her brother - and even if he turns out to be her cousin still a little bit icky! ( )

A light read, telling the tale of Maria Domenica and her daughter, Chiara. Mostly set in Italy, with parts based in England, it crosses the generations to tell the story.

If you enjoy Italian food you will certainly be drooling by the time you reach the end of this book, full of mentions of delicious sounding food throughout. ( )
