Maggie Shayne returns to her fabulous Wings in the Night series with the "Prince of Twilight" Tempest "Stormy" Jones has been haunted for 16 long years by the infamous vampire, Vlad Dracul. Previously in BLUE TWILIGHT, Stormy discovered that Vlad's wife, Elisabeta, resided in her body along with Stormy. As a result, Stormy struggles to maintain control of her own body as Elisabeta yearns to return. Unfortunately, a magic worked over 500 years ago is about to expire and Stormy's life is now in jeopardy. The ring needed to work the rite for Elisabeta's return has resurfaced. Will Vlad choose Stormy or Elisabeta? I really enjoyed this book. Vlad sometimes comes off as unsympathetic, but this may be one of the best Dracula's ever invented. ( )

Tempest "Stormy" Jones is trying to deal with problems associated with Elisabeta, a ghost who is trying to use her to get back to the world. She's not sure if Vlad Dracul wants her or Elisabeta and this is tearing her apart. She also gets involved in the shady Athena society.

It's an interesting look at some of the problems that must happen with reincarnation and long lives. ( )

Vlad Dracul was devastated when he came home from battle only to find his child bride of one night had committed suicide. In his grief he called the greatest sorcerers and magicians to chain her soul and guarantee her reincarnation into one of her descendants. Centuries later she is reborn into Tempest Jones but Tempest has no intention of giving up her body to her ancestor's soul and now Dracula must chose between his now insane bride and the passionate woman he has grown to care for.

Despite an interesting premise I think this story suffered for trying to stuff the legendary Dracula into it. In this story Vlad the Impaler isn't such a bad guy at all and as a hero is quite likeable. Unfortunately this personality doesn't really fit into the mythos. Had it been simply a vampire romance I think it would have been a bit more believable.

As a vampire romance I found this quite enjoyable. The heroine just skirted the things that sometimes bother me, managing to be sure of herself and very tough without making the traits obnoxious. As I mentioned before, I really liked Vlad as a character and his background was well done, if unbelievable in the traditional Dracula storyline. The pacing of the story was well done and once I had gotten into it I didn't want to put it down. Even the side characters were fleshed out enough to make us curious about them. Although it is obvious that this particular story is part of a series, I haven't read any of the predecessor novels but felt this didn't detract from the tale which felt full and self-contained. There is one question at the end that was kind of left hanging with regard to the character of Brooke which I assume it is probably addressed in subsequent novels.

Taken on its own I found this story very enjoyable and if I were to come across others of the series I wouldn't object to reading those as well. ( )
