This is a well balanced work presenting Bismarck & his influence on uniting Prussia with German states to create Germany. Although Bismarck is controversial both in his time & after his death, what he accomplished was enormously impactive in Germany's creation with skill & manipulation of weaker individuals both within Prussia & outside of Prussia. Bismarck kept central Europe stable for as long as he remained in power but his system he had created unraveled after he was forced to resign. Lesser men afterwards blinded by ego & perceived grievances destroyed much of what Bismarck had put in place. Still, the author presents several perspectives using primary sources & historian thoughts both good & bad. ( ) aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Bismarck's role in the unification and consolidation of Germanynbsp;is central to any understanding of Germany's development as a nation and its consequent role as aggressor in two world wars. This study provides students with a concise, up-to-date and analytical account of Bismarck's role in modern German history. Williamson guides readers through the complex events leading to the defeats of Austria and France in 1866 and 1870 and the subsequent creation of a united Germany in January 1871. He then explores the domestic and foreign problems Bismarck faced up to 1890 in consolidating unification. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
