(Paperback ISBN edition) From the back cover of Bring forth the best robes: a spiritual understanding of Severus Snape: 'Repentance is not a once and for all gesture. It is a state of the soul, a constant rededication, a determination to rise after each fall. It enables us to see love, whether it is as statuesque as a tree or as frail as a seedling. Through repentance, the awareness of our own weaknesses allows us to view the weaknesses of others with immense compassion and to appreciate the value of their offerings. In St. Makarios of Egypt's words, "does the man who plants a vineyard immediately gather grapes? Or does he who sows seeds in the earth at once reap the harvest?" Using Professor Snape as a template, I wish to extol the best of everyone.'… (plus d'informations)

I was a bit skeptical about reading this at first. I came across this title many times while searching for books and passed it off as something that I didn't want to read. I pushed it away because I am not a Christian and didn't think I would enjoy a book drawing parallels between spirituality and Severus Snape. Yes, I passed it up even though I absolutely love Severus Snape and have since Sorceror's Stone.

I like to believe that is because I wasn't quite ready to read it yet.

I came across the book again earlier this month and decided to give it a try. Wow! Four words come to mind after reading this book... Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!

This book was superbly written. By the end of the first chapter I was caught in the spidery web of the words written across the 100 pages. My people questioned my love of Severus from the beginning and especially after Half Blood Prince. All I could say to them was he had me at "There will be no foolish wandwaving..." and he continued to have my trust up until "Always."

This book takes a deeper look at how Severus progressed from "a slimy, greased, overgrown bat" to "the bravest man I ever knew." I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and recommend it to anyone who wishes to read more into Severus Snape's character from a spiritual point of view, or if you are like me...just read a book about Snape. Thank you Logospilgrim for this wonderful book. Now onward to 'The Flawed Master' :-) ( )

There is no doubt in my mind that Snape was a saint, as far as can be said of a fictional character.
