A girl discovers a magical world of storytelling beneath a secret trapdoor in Muirhouse library. An ancient piper emerges from the sea at Portobello, to challenge the City Council. Three hapless witches circle above the Old Town, failing to do good deeds. And at school, a bully is tricked into taking the blame for a crime he didn't commit. Familiar and fantastical, comic and thought-provoking, Our City brings together ten of Scotland's top children's writers, with specially commissioned stories inspired by Edinburgh. Our City is published in support of the OneCity Trust, Edinburgh's leading social inclusion charity. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |

The collection is a bit uneven. The first story, "All Change" by Jonathan Meres, was probably my favorite. Well-written in an engaging style, and with no hint of talking down to kids. Weakest in my view was "Friends Forever" by Cathy Cassidy. The story of a group of friends, including one from Kurdish Iraq, was preachy and inauthentic, though the topic of refugees in Britain is certainly timely. Worth the purchase to check out unfamiliar authors and to experience through stories the magic that is Edinburgh. ( )
