Gives you a new look on Irish culture. A lovely collection of traditional Irish tales, beautifully and simply illustrated by Niamh Sharkey, and complemented by Malachy Doyle's softly lilting Irish accent. The stories include: The children of Lir; Fair, Brown and Trembling; The twelve wild geese; Lusmore and the fairies; Son of an otter, son of a wolf; The soul cages; Oisin in Tir na nOg. This would be suitable as a book to read to younger children 4years and older, and were enchanting to an adult such as myself This book has 7 Irish folktales. The writing is easy to understand for young and old alike but at the same time paints a picture in your imagination. There is a listing of how to pronounce certain words at the beginning also. The pictures are whimsical and stylized and I wish there were more of them. For me it didn’t really convey Ireland except the color green was used predominately throughout the book. An enchanting collection of traditional Irish folk tales. Maura O'Connell does a fine job in reading them. The only flaw I found with this program was that the music played between the stories was louder by far than the rest of the recording. By turning down the volume I regularly missed the title of the next story. But this is a minor problem and I can still wholeheartedly recommend this collection to anyone interested in Ireland and its stories.
