So let's begin with what I did like.
That is Cleo who was pretty damn awesome and probably herself account for 2 of the 3 stars that I gave this book. The beginning was awesome, the middle was tiresome, and the ending was Duh?? It had to be that person. The book was pretty well written and I enjoyed it. ( )

This enjoyable cozy mystery, set in Hogan's Glen, Maryland, introduces us to Cleopatra Jones, accountant, avid golfer and single mother of two. Still recovering from a recent divorce from her cheating ex-husband, Charlie, Cleo is stunned to discover his best friend, Donny Davis (aka Dudley Doright), lying dead from a bullet wound on the neighborhood golf course. It seems everyone had a motive to kill Dudley, including Cleo's best friend, Jonette; Cleo's ex-husband, Charlie; Charlie's wife, Denise; Jasper the golf course maintenance man; Jasper's mother; Cleo's neighbor, Ed; the mayor; and a local real estate developer. The police start an official investigation, but Cleo is determined to find the murderer herself.

In For A Penny is a combination of humor, suspense and romance. Cleo's dialogue is filled with lots of clever lines and there are plenty of amusing secondary characters. Her mother and daughters will keep you laughing with their bizarre recipes (Rainbow Salad and Spickle Fish Pasta). Plus there are a couple of cute St. Bernard dogs in the mix so there's plenty to like. On the negative side, suspicion jumped quickly from one suspect to another on the flimsiest basis. I just needed to remind myself that this was a humor based mystery and not a candidate for the Edgar award. I think most fans of cozy mysteries would really enjoy this one.
