Most were a sip of aged dandelion wine. Remembering those summers of youth with fondness. There was one horror story to balance out the sweetness. Bradbury was a wordsmith of the highest order. ( ) This book could do with an editorial introduction. It seems like it collects all the Green Town stories into one place (aside from the novels) whether published in Bradbury's lifetime or not, but then one is clearly set in a coastal town or city. Many of the previously unpublished "vignettes", as they are described on the cover blurb, appear to be isolated scenes that either never developed in to full stories or were cut from a story or novel for some reason. Hence an editorial - to explain the aim of the book and where the previously unpublished material came from. Anyway, this is pure Bradbury in terms of writing style, plot and theme and a delight to read, even if those off-cut scenes appear to just be filler to bulk up what remains a slender volume. This is a very fine collection of "Green Town" stories published in 2010. They are either set within the framework of the town familiar from "Dandelion Wine", or at least give the appearance of it. About half of the stories were previously published in various collections and places, but are being brought together here thematically for the first time. The latter half of the book are previously unpublished short stories. Many of these aren't even really stories - they are little moments (one or two paragraphs in length sometimes) that may have been cut out of or never fit into "Dandelion Wine" or "Farewell Summer." As such this is rather an oddity. Think of some of these later pieces as deleted scenes on a DVD! My favorite story in the collection, of many good ones, was "All On A Summer's Night". This story was first published in January 1950, and is a sweet story about a young Douglas Spaulding who adores a librarian who lives in his grandparent's rooming house. She has introduced him to so many people ... Robert Frost, Longfellow, Whitman, Poe and when the 4th of July comes around he does something very nice for her. I found this interesting and think it could be enjoyed by anyone, but would probably tickle those the most who have already read and enjoyed Dandelion Wine. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
