The workers wanted to expand the factory to make more room, by adding more chimneys. Once they realized that the chimneys were harmful they fled the factory. The owner took the chimneys down and all his workers came back. I thought this story was very cute. The pictures were very bright, reminded me of pop art. The story is also a sing along so I think that would be fun for children. ( ) There is a little factory run by one man and a few workers. They wanted to expand the factory to make it bigger. By doing this the factory began to produce more smoke. The smoke made all of the workers choke and chased them out of the factory. In the end the man redid the factory to run off of the sun with no smoke. This was a good book because it teaches you that the bigger is not always better. Yes, with more workrooms they could produce more toys and product, but it was too much. They wound up hurting themselves. Also, it teaches readers to use natural resources. Being from St. Charles Parish, I know the struggle of being around all of the smoke stacks. However, if the owners would improve the quality of living for everyone around, including workers. Audience: pre K -3rd grades This is a wonderful book for younger children about conserving resources for a cleaner environment. I loved the part when the stacks were replaced by solar panels (though it took me a while to realize what was going on)! This book can be used in the classroom to discuss renewable energy sources and how it can affect people positively. Students will love the simple figures and the 'oh, la-dee-dah, la-dee-dah' that can be sung chorally in class. "There was a little man who ran a little factory, oh, la-dee-dah, la-dee-dah." And he expands the factory with the help of his little workers so many more little yellow ducks can move along the conveyor belt, but then the extra chimneys make too much extra smoke, so the little man and the little workers can't breathe, so the little man decides to take away all the little chimneys and move to solar energy. And the happy little workers come back. The end. (Note: the tune/song on the CD isn't really singable for the normal voice...) aucune critique | ajouter une critique

There was a little man who ran a little factory. But as the factory grows bigger and bigger, the little workers begin to cough and choke on the smoke from the factory chimneys. It's up to the little man to save the day. This one-of-a-kind picture book with CD-ROM keeps the little factory humming with an animated song kids will love to sing, playable on both Macs and PCs.
