Nameless is asked to investigate and recover valuable first editions books that apparently were stolen in a burglary/homicide. The police aren't interested in the stolen books and are busy with the homicide. Meanwhile Nameless' partner is working on a stalking case that involves threatens to the family members of a dead man whose grave has been desecrated. ( ) Nameless the detective works a case involving thievery of some extremely rare editions of mystery books. At the same time his partner Jake Runyon works a case of a harassment of 2 brothers. The style of the book is easy and quick but the characters are boring and don't interact. The book is written as though two separate novels were put together via every other chapter. If one or the other were removed you would never know the difference. This book is late in the series, so I might jump into an earlier one before I give up on Pronzini altogether. Another good Nameless mystery. To be honest it is really only half a Nameless mystery. This is actually two unrelated stories. One is a kind of classic locked door mystery investigated by Nameless. How were the valuable rare volumes of detective fiction stolen from the millionaire’s sealed library? But that is just the beginning. The other is handled by Nameless’ partner Jake Runyon. A couple of upright citizens (and their deceased father?) are being stalked by an acid wielding maniac. It’s like the author had a couple of short story ideas he either couldn’t or wouldn’t expand into novels so he just decided to combine them. Different but enjoyable. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

A locked room mystery that goes from stolen books to stolen lives and the hunt for a phantom stalker with a penchant for pouring acid to make his point give Nameless and his partner Jake more than enough work to earn their fees--as long as neither turns his back at the wrong moment.
