Shaughnessy writes a very interesting history of the Red Sox as told through the lens of the so called Curse. He looks at the sale of Ruth and then goes into how it has affected the Sox for the past almost 100 years. From the Pesky play in the '46 World Series to the famous '75, Pudge waves the ball fair, World Series, and the Buckner game to the Boone game. He covers all the heartbreak with good writing and in a storytelling fashion. If you are new to baseball and want to get caught up on the most famous player in history and his Curse then this is great information. If you are a life long baseball fan, this book is a lot of recycled stories, although interesting still. ( ) I found this book to be very interesting. It is a fictional story filled with many facts which make it non-fiction. As a baseball fan it tells a story that not many people know off the top of their heads. It makes one wonder if the Red Sox really were cursed for all that time. It would be a book that I would read to students when discussing things that you do with family members, specifically parents, because it tells the story of how Kate went to the season opener with her dad and the story he told her. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
The Boston Red Sox's loss to the New York Yankees in the 2003 playoffs has been called "the game of the century," evidence that the rivalry between the Red Sox and the Yankees was hotter than ever. In the wake of that defeat, author and Boston Globe sports columnist Dan Shaughnessy updated his bewitching story of the curse that laid over the Red Sox after they sold Babe Ruth to the hated Yankees in 1920. Here he sheds light on classic Sox debacles from the years before they broke the curse and finally reached the World Championship again--from Johnny Pesky's so-called hesitation throw to the horrifying dribbler that slithered between Bill Buckner's legs. Lively and filled with anecdotes, this is baseball folklore at its best. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
