One of my teachers must have used Schiffman as a guide, at least in part. As I read about asanas I was familiar with, I could hear her voice in my head, guiding the class through each step. ( ) I have found this book to be the best way for me to come to terms with a pose I'm having trouble with. Until I read and practiced with this book, I hated Downward Dog, and it turned into my favorite pose. There's plenty of information to move into the pose much more deeply; if you want to use your yoga as meditation, this book can help you do that. Whenever I get stuck, this is the book I go to. Erich Schiffmann (born 1953, Los Angeles, California) is an accomplished American Yoga Master widely known for his best-selling book, Moving into Stillness. He has been teaching yoga for more than twenty years. At age 18 Schiffmann sent a handwritten letter to Krishnamurti and was accepted to study with him in England. He deepened his practice of yoga with Desikachar and Iyengar in India, and with Dona Holleman and Vanda Scaravelli in Europe. "Moving into Stillness" provides simple instruction and demonstrative illustrations to introduce a technique that combines hatha yoga and meditation in order to slow the aging process, decrease stress, promote creativity, and improve mental and physical health.
