Many of today's best (and best-selling) fantasists got their start writingshared world fiction supporting roleplaying games. This massive anthologycollects more than a dozen thrilling tales from R.A. Salvatore, Michael A.Stackpole, Monte
The original reason that I wished to read this book was simply for the story by Stackpole as my past experiences with such anthologies have left me used to a mixed bag of good, bad and ugly, all mixed together. I was quite surprised when, out of all the stories herein, there is only one author that I will not automatically be looking for in the future.
Perhaps the highest overall quality of any scifi/fantasy anthology I've ever read. ( )
This is an excellent anthology of authors who's works are more famous because they wrote in someone else's world. However, these stories are set in worlds of their own creation. All of the stories have appeared elsewhere, but this is still an excellent collection. Most of the authors have game designer or writer roots. ( )
