Penguin Readers is a series of simplified novels, film novelizations and original titles that introduce students at all levels to the pleasures of reading in English. Originally designed for teaching English as a foreign language, the series' combination of high interest level and low reading age makes it suitable for both English-speaking teenagers with limited reading skills and students of English as a second language. Many titles in the series also provide access to the pre-20th century literature strands of the National Curriculum English Orders.… (plus d'informations)

This book have five stories.
And I like 'A White Heron' and 'Luck'.
'A White Heron' had main character.
Her name was Sylvia. She was shy girl.
She knew nest of heron,But she didn't tell this for young man.I think her choice was good because if she tell that, the heron would be killed.
'Luck' is interesting story also.
Scoresby was fool man. But he was respected from other people because of luck.
I want to have luck and go well like him. ( )

A white Heron is the first of five great American short stories. A white Heron is a short story by Sara Orne Jewett, first published by Houghton, Mifflin and company in 1886. It is a story of a young city girl named Sylvia, who came to live with her grandmother in the country. She meets a young ornithologist hunter seeking to find a rare bird he has heard has been spotted in the area. Sylvia wants to protect the birds from the hunter. In the end the hunter fails to catch the bird hunter in the White Heron.

The girl whose name is Sylvia is poor at communicate with people. She goes to her grandmother's house and her friend is only cow which her grandmother feed. One day young man come her house and Sylvia and he became friends. But he is hunter and he wants know where heron is. Sylvia knew it but she doesn't tell him because he will kill them. Then he disappointed her. She lost friend but that's fine with her.
I think sylvia suffer from which she should choose youngman or heron. I wish she could have many friend.
This story is one of story in this book. So it's easy to read. ( )

A main character;Sylvia of this book is quite complex situation. If I were her,I don't know what to do.
I think it is difficult to decide which friends is more important.
I want her to make friends more and more.
