An ARC I received when my favorite bookstore was closing (RIP, Harry W Schwartz), it just looked like a slim little book about Dresden. However, this is a wonderful memoir of Dresden written by a famous composer/painter/novelist (of whom I'd never heard before) about his formative years spent in Germany, ostensibly learning the language, but it's also about society in general and the people he stays with. It's really excellent, very readable, interesting - I'll be looking for the rest of his memoirs for sure. Four stars. ( ) aucune critique | ajouter une critique
InDresden, as in his earlier memoirs,First Childhood,A Distant Prospect, andThe Chateau de Resenlieu - all published by Turtle Point Press with Helen Mark Books - Lord Gerald Hugh Tyrwitt-Wilson Berners shows the neat precision of style and wit that typifies his musical compositions. Here is a subtle work of art and a small masterpiece of understatement. The quintessential English eccentric,Lord Berners (1883 - 1950) was a composer, novelist, painter, and conspicuous aesthete. Known as the English Satie, Berners as a composer collaborated with Gertrude Stein, Balanchine, Ashton, and Diaghilev. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
