"Dumb Bunnies' Easter" is an installment in the Dumb Bunnies books by Sue Denim. In this book the Dumb Bunnies are preparing for Easter, but based on the date it isn't Easter at all, it's actually Christmas! The bunnies continue to prepare for Easter with a mis mosh of holiday traditions all rolled into one. My favorite part of these books is the many phrases illustrated in silly ways. Such as, "put on the lights and tinsel" and the illustration is the bunnies wearing these things. This was a fun read aloud and the children found the silliness of the book to be enjoyable. I loved these books as a child and found the just as fun as an adult. ( )

When I was picking out picture books for this week, I came across this book that I remembered reading in elementary school. I couldn’t really remember what the book was about, so I picked it up and began reading. I feel like this book truly embodies what a picture book is about – that the pictures bring more meaning to the text. The book begins talking about how the Dumb Bunnies are getting ready for Easter, even though it is December 24th. The text goes on to explain everything the bunnies are doing to get ready for the holiday. However, the text does not portray how silly some of these actions are – the reader has to learn that from the pictures. For example, the mother bunny “tosses the salad,” which is a very normal thing to do during the holidays. It is not until you look at the picture that you see the mother bunny toss the salad across the room. The whole book uses silly pictures to bring new meanings to phrases, and I thought it was very cute. ( )

This is definitely clever a fair bit of the time, but I can't get behind a book that picks on bunnies, guys, I'm sorry, I just can't. It's like painting over a rainbow. ( )
