I travelled through a small chunk of China back in about 2011, visiting Macau, Guangzhou, Hainan Island and Guilin. Those were the days when one still had to rely on the printed word to guide them in their travels and I thought "The Rough Guide to China" was a good example of a guide book. Indeed, in this online age I miss toting a guidebook or two along on my meandering journeys. Now, however, my partner scorns travel advice on paper, preferring the wonders of online travel info and AirBnB. ( )
