The paper by historian Gretchen Adams and poems by Nicole Cooley were presented at a symposium at the American Antiquarian Society introduced by John Hench and with concluding comments by Jill Lepore. Evan Haefeli contributed a translation of an eighteenth-century letter about the Salem Witch Trials along with an interpretive essay about the circumstances that resulted in the letter by Jacob Melyen; John Murrin describes the trials as the last of a series of upheavals in the English Atlantic world. This is a study of several groups each of which chose a different scapegoat. It also traces how the tragedy at Salem follows a dramatic reversal of judicial restraint in resolving complaints about witchcraft. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
