I really enjoyed all the new characters that we met and how complex the world became. It was a complex story and i loved all the unexpected twists and turns. ( ) Book 3 in the first adult re-read of my beloved Immortals series. Finally we get to visit Carthak, the empire that's caused so much trouble throughout the series. I rather like the setting - it's a bit different from the usual stock fantasy empire, taking its influences from classical Roman and Egyptian cultures as well as diverse African cultures. It was also interesting to re-read in light of having just read Tempests and Slaughter. This is my favorite book in the Immortals quartet. There are so many things I love about it - Alanna plays a larger role here than she does in the other books, you see a whole new country, great world building, and some new gods. This is the book in the series where things start coming together. I love it. 1/30/12: Continuing my re-read of the series. This is still my favorite of the Daine books. There is just so much to adore! I loved seeing Carthak and it's Egyptian-esque culture. The world-building junkie in me was extremely happy. I loved that we saw Alanna more, and Duke Gareth and Gary had cameo appearances. I loved that the gods were front and center, and I can't even begin to describe how awesome the dinosaurs were. Tamora Pierce does an excellent job crafting her characters. Daine is relatable and kind, and Numair, Kaddar, and the rest are all personable and complex. I also enjoyed how Pierce kept the suspence up, despite Daine's incredibly massive powers. This is an excellent vacation day's read, and I'd recommend it. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
