Tracy Flick wants to be President of Winwood High. She??s one of those ambitious girls who finds time to do it all: edit the yearbook, star in the musical, sleep with her English teacher. But another teacher, staunch idealist Jim McAllister, aka ??Mr. M.,? thinks the students deserve better. So he persuades Paul Warren??a well-liked, good-hearted jock??to throw in his hat. While I enjoyed the almost mockumentary style, I feel like the book seemed more scandalous when it came out than it does today. ( )

I might need a break from satire. Read my full review here. ( )

This was a super quick read. It is about a high school and the election of the Student Government President. When the faculty adviser suggests that a popular football player and National Merit semifinalist run for the office, Tracy Flick is surprised that she has some competition. After all, Tracy has been grooming herself for the job since middle school! Tracy is wise beyond her years, but isn't very popular, except with one particular teacher.
This book is funny at times, but also surprising. I am so glad that I attended a single sex school after reading the things that happened in this high school, and the way that the administration and staff behaved as well!
Looking forward to the follow up book! ( )

This book was not available as an ebook for many years. I was so happy to see it arrive on Kindle recently and was able to read it. I have read most of Perrotta's other novels and have enjoyed them all. I saw Election (the movie) when it came out many years ago but this was my first time reading the novel it was based on.

So - it's amazing how fast society changes. There are more than a few things here that are problematic in a way that I really think would have just passed me by if I read it in the early 2000s. That being said. Perrotta's characters, his plots, his pacing are all stellar. It is so hard to put his books down. Even if the people are doing loathsome things - I always want to know more. ( )

Quick read. I liked Tammy; the other characters didn't seem all that fully developed. ( )
