Tom and Kate have escaped Kate's werewolf mother and made it to New York. But it's not the safe haven they had hoped for. Something sinister is stalking the streets, preying on the vulnerable - people with no place to stay, no money, no one to ask for help, and before Tom and Kate can find the medicine man who can save Tom from his own werewolf instincts, it looks like they might be next on the menu. This is urban, gritty writing with action from the first page and a fright around every corner.… (plus d'informations)

Really dark series. Characters are little flat and cliche but still interesting. Lots of torment and anguish, both in the physical and the emotional realms. ( )

This book starts off with Tom and Kate hitchhiking to New York City in an attempt to find Jicaque, the medicine man who might know a cure to make Tom human again. However, after arriving in NYC Tom and Kate discovery more trouble than they bargained for. Takapa, the evil werewolf usurper has instituted a "turn as many humans wolf as they can" plan. In addition to discovering a plethora of newly turned werewolves, Tom and Kate also discover that these 'wolves are being made to fight against each other gladiator style to ensure that only the strongest 'wolves survive. Hooked on a plasma that works on the 'wolves like a highly addictive drug these werewolves are almost more dangerous than the 'wolves Tom and Kate were already familiar with.

This story is full of action, almost to the point of being over full. I think Tom and Kate, Kate in particular, kind of got lost in all of the action. Still, this book was thouroughly enjoyable and fast paced. I read the whole story in one sitting in the evening after work. I was happy that although I knew the story would be continued in the third story, it didn't leave off in such a way that the reader was hurting to know what happened next. This was a self-contained story which I think is a definate plus. It was especially interesting to see how Tom reacted to the interest of another girl and Kate's newly discovered jealousy to the situation. ( )
