Appropriate for grades K through 6 because it is an easy read and all children will love the vivid graphics. The story is about a young princess named Mabelrose, who explores a magical land where she must be courageous and strong in order to defeat trolls, a dragon, and a tiger king. Her bravery and strength gain her the respect and friendship of people and magical creatures alike, as well as help her find her way home. Addresses courage, bravery, exploration, determination, respect, and friendship. In younger grades, use for read alouds and follow-up activities about courage ans bravery. In older grades, have students read independently and write their own graphic novels. This graphic novel follows the exploits of Princess Mabelrose. She is taken by a dragon and locked in a tower. Instead of waiting for someone to rescue her though, Mabelrose sneaks out of the twoer herself and heads for home. She has many adventures. She even encounters a boar whom she kisses but does not turn into a prince. Mabelrose does not quite make it home, which leads us to believe there may be a sequel. This was a cute book about a stron girl. It's one that I enjoyed looking at with my girls. I would have students make a list of other similar stories. I would also have them make their won hort graphic novels with themselves as the heroes. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Even though this had a dragon and talking magical creatures, it couldn’t keep my interest and I skimmed the last few pages. Sometimes, the text was overly crammed too. The plot points just moved too fast and Mabelrose was boring as a character. ( )
