Once again, a wedding is interrupted by drama. This time Gabe's wife faints at the alter. Unfortunately it is after they are pronounced husband and wife. This should be a sign to Gabe and everyone else of things to come. When his wife dies, Gabe heads back to visit his friend Billy. He needs the love and companionship of his friend to help him through his dark days. It surprises no one, except maybe Gabe, that the sun is about to shine again in his life. This time in the form of Billy's little 'sister' Solace. When Solace runs away to join a Wild West Show, she reconnects with Joel, her stepfather's son who ran away himself years earlier. He helps her get a job with the show, but she must pretend she is a man since there is already one female sharpshooter. Trouble soon finds Solace and she needs the help of Gabe, who has taken the job as a local judge.

I found myself rolling my eyes a few times at Gabe. I wanted to shake him and maybe knock some sense into his head! You know you are reading a good book when you become frustrated by a characters actions. Hubbard's writing is so real and detailed it was like watching a movie. I knew exactly how the characters looked, the way they dressed, and even the way the table was set for dinner. The author makes her words and her characters come alive. ( )
