This is a collection of six comic issues, each focusing on a different alien race from Star Trek: the Gorn, the Vulcans, the Andorians, the Orions, the Borg, and the Romulans. The Tiptons' Gorn and Orion stories are average stories, the latter being somewhat stronger but still fairly perfunctory. The art on both is very good, though, especially the Gorn issue. Patrick's Vulcan story is a little odd, but it works well enough if you buy the premise that some of the Enterprise crew are bigoted against Vulcans. On the other hand, the art's kind of goofy. Storrie's Andorian story is a good extrapolation of what we saw on Enterprise-- the art is again quite good. Harris's Borg story is all over the place, unfortunately, and loses what could be a great story in a bit of a mishmash of ideas and technobabble and unbelievable leaps of plot and logic. The art is downright fantastic, though. The standout of the collection is Byrne's Romulan tale, a prequel to "Balance of Terror" developing Mark Lenard's character from that episode and making him even more awesome than before. The best thing about this collection is its variety-- it showcases a number of different types of stories and art styles, utilizing the comic medium to its best. I'm looking forward to the second volume.
