The Witch Who Went for a Walk by Margaret Hillert Illustrated by Krystyna Stasiak Summary This book tells of a witch who while flying on her broom with her cat, decides to take a walk. The book illustrates all the which sees on her walk. The book tells of the witch’s reaction to each animal, object, or person she encounters on her walk. In the end the witch decides she prefers to fly. Reaction The book uses repetition to emphasize actions and emotions felt by the witch while on her walk. The book has the witch as a main dynamic character. The cat is a static character in the story. The story seems to be set in the fall possibly on Halloween based on the scenes depicted in the book. This book would be ideal for preschool or kindergarten children just beginning to read. Extension 1. Tell children to identify objects on pages of what the witch sees while on her walk. 2. Ask children if they would rather walk or fly and why. 3. Have children go on a walk outside and then draw a picture of what they saw. 4. Have children draw picture of what they will dress up for on Halloween. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

The Witch Who Went for a Walk was originally published in 1981 with the artwork of Krystyna Stasiak, and then reissued in 2016 with illustrations by Mernie Gallagher-Cole. I myself read the original edition, and am so glad that I did! Although the text here is a little too simple and repetitive to be that interesting - hardly surprising, given that it is intended for beginning readers - the artwork from Stasiak is just lovely. The color palette she uses is simply gorgeous - beautiful, vibrant hues - and the stylized figures appealing. Recommended to beginning readers looking for witchy fare. (
