This is a review for all three volumes of the Death of Captain America.

A strong narrative that plays a lot on guilt from Bucky, Sharon, Tony, Sam. Each character has its own brand of guilt. Natasha is excellent and her part in the Winter Soldier redemption journey is well done. We even get a cameo from a certain archer.

The villains are quite over the top (as it should be) but the whole arc with Sharon is quite uncomfortable. Was Red Skull really contemplating what I think he was? If so ... ewww.. Moving on to the next volume.

The graphics were beautifully done. The new Captain uniform a good blend of old memories making it possible for Bucky to wear the uniform and still be himself in a way. ( )

The tension is mounting a bit in this volume. Red Skull's plan has been building for a while, but we're still not sure what that plan is. And though Bucky has embraced his new role, he's stumbling a little in it.

I'm glad he is. He has some big boots to fill, and it would dishonor Steve's memory if someone else could just step in and take his place. Brubaker has been preparing Bucky for the role for a while, but training is one thing -- holding the shield is another. ( )

I wasn't sure how I would feel about Bucky taking over the role of Captain America, but I absolutely loved this trade. Bucky, who was last seen in the clutches of Dr. Faustus, manages to escape and resumes his plan to kill Tony Stark, the man he (rightfully, in my opinion) blames for Steve's death. However, a truce is established once Bucky reads a letter Steve had written before his untimely demise, and Bucky focuses his energy on becoming worthy of the legacy of Captain America.

Of course, he has some troubles at first. He isn't the great motivational speaker that Steve was (yet), and he has a rather comical incident when throwing the shield and seemingly missing his intended target. Meanwhile, the Red Skull is plotting to make America burn, and Bucky has to try to stop him.

Bucky is really well done; he has a lot of insecurities about taking up the mantle of Captain America, and he isn't perfect when it comes to assuming the role. The Falcon, who is usually a z-list character, is playing an important part here, and I really like how he's done as well. And the art is great! I can't wait to read the next trade in this series. I really liked the use of some of teh secondary characters. The Falcon was actually pretty cool. And I enjoy the Sharon Carter stuff too. ( )
