( ) I am very impressed with Wolff. This was the only book of hers I'd not yet read, and it's every bit as good as her others. Nick, who has minimal brain dysfunction, is a very sympathetic and winsome character. All the characters are fleshed out, believable, and the plot pulls one along. Perhaps not her strongest book, but certainly worth reading. This story is a touching and insightful piece of realistic fiction. The author explores a Special Ed. student's perception of self and the way he is treated by peers and adults. The way the author gets into the head of the main character helps the reader experience what goes on in the mind of a Special Ed. teenager. This story is a good read for anyone who is sensitive to kids with special needs. It brings to light the high school experience for a Special Ed. teen in a straightforward, simplistic manner. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

Sixteen-year-old learning-disabled Nick struggles to endure a life in which the other kids make fun of him, he has to take special classes, his date for the prom makes an excuse not to go with him, and he is haunted by the memory of his older sister who drowned while he was watching.
