This book was different from the other books I read, all that really happened was a teacher was teaching her about the Mexican hat dance that occurs on Cinco de Mayo. The meaning of the book was to inform kids about the celebration. The features I liked about the text is the information at the end of the book. On the last couple of pages, the actually gives the reader details on what the holiday is about. This helps the students learn about other cultures holidays. I also liked that the illustrator created movement through the pictures. When the kids are dancing around the hat you can see the movement in their steps. ( ) The big idea of this book was to inform readers of the Cinco de Mayo holiday and the celebrations that come along. There are two things that I liked about this book. The first was plot. This book focused on giving facts about an important tradition in the Latin community. I think it is always a good thing to inform people on others culture. The second was the use of real photographs. This gave the readers actual visuals of the celebration. All in all, I'd rate this book a 4/10. I had mixed feelings about this book. There were parts that I liked and parts that I did not like. I liked the book because of the plot that the author built. Specifically, she focused the first half of the story’s plot on a fictional young classroom of students and their teacher and their attempt to learn the special hat dance that is used to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. The second half of the story is an informational section as it explains the history behind Cinco De Mayo and why it is so special to the Mexican culture. I liked the setup of the plot because I was able to read a good story as well as learn about such an important holiday. On the other hand, I did not like the book because of the consistent illustrations. For example, the author portrayed the class practicing the dance with the hat on almost every page, which began to become very dull and I got bored reading the story. The big idea of this book is the importance of celebrating different cultures and their holidays. This book explains the true meaning of Cinco de Mayo. First, it starts off by a realistic fiction story about Cinco de Mayo and a class learning the dance and about the holiday in general. It features lyrics on each page of book to imagine the song they are dancing to. This also integrates Spanish language with the English, because of the song lyrics and the holiday and dance are in Spanish as well. The second part of the book is the informational piece because it informs readers on the battle, what and where the celebrations are, and other cultural traditions surrounding the holiday. This book fully informs readers on the holiday and how to appropriately celebrate it. In my opinion, this is a great informational text to help children better understand why Cinco de Mayo is celebrated. The text provides history about the French invading Mexico and how the French lost the battle on May 5th. The beginning of the book is about children learning the traditional hat dance to be performed at the Cinco de Mayo celebration. I think this is a great way to draw the reader in and get them interested in the topic. After the story are some informational pages telling about the different traditions that take place on Cinco de Mayo. The language is easy to understand and the pictures are both illustrated and real photos. I think this is a great book to help children to become more knowledgeable of other cultures. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
