For young children, this book is a good resource for interesting and simple facts about the Pilgrims in question/answer format. What was life like on the Mayflower? What did children on board the Mayflower do all day? Did the Pilgrims build log cabins? Did everyone have his/her own bedroom? Did children go to school in Plymouth? What kind of chores did Pilgrim children do? These questions and many more are answered with a 2-3 paragraph explanation. This book is very information on pilgrims from where they came from to the friendship of them and the Indians. The book discusses many important facts of the Pilgrims and their journey to the new world. This would be a great book to read overtime to students when discussing certain things when learning about the pilgrims. It also has activities throughout the book that are helpful to students. Kenneth Davis does a great job of mixing smooth prose with informational facts in this nonfiction book geared for children in the middle grades. Davis is very efficient with the use of the pages, even using the margins to pass on some knowledge about the Pilgrims. Davis uses a style that includes light humor bordering on sarcasm but this helps the reader soak up all the facts that he throws at them. This would serve as a great source of history in a middle school classroom. A short, but sweet look into the lives of the pilgrims. The purpose of this book is to dispel some of the ideas we have about the pilgrims and to give it's readers an idea of what life was really like for the 17th century early British Colonists. Sure it's a children's book, but informative nonetheless. This book tells a lot about the Pilgrims, how they lived, and things that they went through. It tells about their relationship with Indians and Thanksgiving. This book also gives a bread recipe that they used. I liked this book because it told so much about pilgrims and children will find the book fun and interesting. Not only does it tell about Pilgrims but also about Indians. I would use this book around Thanksgiving so the students will know what exactly happened. I would also make the bread recipe so the students come eat something that they actually ate back then on Thanksgiving. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
