Strange book with bizarre storyline not to mention underdeveloped characters (IMHO). I was hopeful that it might get better as a I continued reading but I was doomed to disappointment. Perhaps this genre (a mixture of chick lit magic/science fiction) is simply one I'm not able to appreciate. ( )

It's silly and confusing, but you tend to find yourself laughing your way through the book. ( )

I found The Brass Bed clever and funny. I didn't need quite so much erotica but it didn't ruin the book either. The result is much better than pornography.

I agree with some reviewers that the early part is a bit confusing, getting the reader up to speed. I also have a hard time swallowing the thought that the "hinky" (magic) aspects of the city would be taken so much in stride and ignored (by commandment from the mayor, lol).

Hey, that pigeon just stole a cigarette from me...

The story is clearly open at the end for sequels, which I see exist but I haven't read yet. But there is enough closure of the several crisis points that the end is satisfying, like we're left on a safe ledge while climbing the cliff.

I really enjoyed some of her turns of phrase. Strong chuckle-inducing. ( )

This book made me laugh a lot. The story is set in an alternate Chicago with some magic, including (as it turns out) an incubus serving out a curse. Great stuff ensues. The book moves along nicely and is really a lot of fun. And there are two more in the series, I now find. I would recommend this to anyone who likes romatic comedy with a paranormal element. ( )

I really enjoyed this when I read it as a manuscript in 2005.

I enjoyed the humor, and the bawdy nature of the book. It doesn't sweep things under the rug. I liked the main character and her sex demon. I enjoyed the setting and generally like the Urban Paranormal fantasies when they are done well.

I thought this book was well done, and can't understand all the negativity around the book. ( )

On a sizzling Monday afternoon in July, Jewel Heiss was serving a ticket on a convenience-store owner on Walton Street Near Michigan Avenue, watching the smog over Lake Shore Drive turn pink, and tryin to stake out the Drake Hotel across the street at the same time.
